ION Leadership Transition – Letter from David Swarr

March 27, 2020

I’m writing today to inform you of a transition in the leadership of the International Orality Network.  In view of the growth that ION has been experiencing around the globe  and the needs and opportunities before us as a network in the next 5 years, I came to the conclusion months ago that the time had come for ION to have an Executive Director who could make ION their primary focus. Following prayer and consultation, in the second half of 2019 I shared with the ION leadership that I would be resigning from the role of Executive Director as of March 2020, at the end of 5 years of service.

The ION Global Executive Team and International Council initiated a search for a new Executive Director. That search was not concluded as of the end of my term.  Therefore, Dr. Charles Madinger, who has served alongside me as ION Associate Director has graciously stepped into the gap and will serve as Acting Executive Director for the next few months as the ION leadership seeks to make a permanent appointment.

Dr. Madinger (Chuck) has served the network since it was launched out of the 2004 Lausanne Consultation in Pattaya, Thailand.  He spent the first half of his life in cross-cultural pastoral/missions ministries, and in 2003 began working among oral cultures.  Since 2016 he has worked with me as the ION Associate Director. His latest orality strategy came with the launch of the Manila-headquartered Institutes for Orality Strategies (i-OS).  He and his wife, Roce Anog-Madinger (SIL) live in Metro-Manila and are actively engaged in orality ministries with their home church – Lighthouse Christian Community (Alabang).

It has been a honor to serve the International Orality Network these past 5 years, and a privilege to work alongside the very capable, talented, and highly dedicated leaders from around the globe who serve the network as part of ION’s Global Executive Team and International Council. My passion for serving the oral communities of the world is unabated.  I will continue to champion ION and to support its excellent leadership.

As we face very different and challenging times during these days I pray for the Lord’s shalom—perfect peace upon each one of you. Please pray for Chuck and the rest of the ION leadership as they lead the network forward.

In His Service,

David
