Greetings from East Africa in the name of Jesus our Lord. Thank you for stopping by the ION website.
According to the Lausanne Movement and other evangelical projections, if current trends continue, by the year 2050 there will be 3 billion followers of Jesus on earth and 1 out of every 3 will be in Africa. If this information is anything to go by, the question then must be asked, “Is Africa ready for the coming task of discipling her 1 billion believers?” While a majority of all discipleship resources are packaged in written literature format, a disconnect remains throughout the continent where to a large extent the most prominent method of communication is oral. Information and cultural values continue to be passed from one generation to another through stories and other forms of art that constitute orality or oral communication.
Against that background, we in ION East Africa are committed to influence and empower the church in our region to proactively and effectively make disciples of all oral learners. This will see the fulfillment of the Great Commission by indigenous missionaries in unprecedented speeds as the church realizes the massive mobilization and equipping of Kingdom workers from both literate and non-literate communities equally. This dream begins with Biblical transformation amongst all people groups through effective Scripture engagement programs using orality.
Over the years we have remained focused in building a strong and wider movement for orality in the region, bringing together the church, para-church and individuals of goodwill to share orality best practices, training and available resources.
Through these pages, our team wants you to have the best experience of gathering knowledge and finding direction to useful resources in your journey of applying orality in your areas of ministry. Enjoy every resource from our gifted team of global contributors, invite someone else to pay us a visit, and of course be sure to contact us if you have any questions.
Together, we can finish the unfinished task in the lifetime of our current generation.
