for those of us that can’t attend the ION conference in September, will there be a way to hear talks, read resources presented, or learn about what came out of it? I am particularly interested in learning about the arts discussions happening.

Introduction: I am an ethnomusicologist and ethnodoxologist (simple translation: world music and missions). I currently live in Tulsa, OK where I teach ethnomusicology and cross-cultural worship at Oral Roberts University. I travel a lot internationally with Heart Sounds International leading music songwriting workshops, particularly in places…[Read more]

Hi Erica, Great to ‘meet you’ here! I think you’re completely right, orality is not just about ‘story-ing’ – and the arts are certainly an oral expression of our stories! One thing I’m exploring is the difference between ‘story’ and ‘narrative’ – ie. a ‘story’ is a tool to tell a ‘narrative’ – so we could simply say the idea of telling a…[Read more]

Erica, my wife is an Arts Specialist with SIL and also trained in the American Bible Society’s trauma healing program. She helps teach a course in Dallas which combines the two fields called Arts in Trauma Healing. I’d be happy to connect you with her, and she can direct you further if you like. Please let me know.

Hi all,
I’m a 21 year-old musician, artist, composer and ethnomusicology student at Yale (on a leave of absence) interested in ethnoarts and joining a team abroad working in music and indigenous arts outreach. I am a physics and philosophy major and a music minor, but I am taking time right now to ruminate on what I want to do with my life, and…[Read more]

Hi Josh,
Great to see you on here! My name is Ricki, and am a Communications Associate with ION. Will you still be abroad in September? At the ION Conference in Houston we will be focusing on culture & creativity in missions – this might be a great opportunity to hear how people are serving in various projects.
It is exciting to hear that you are…[Read more]-
Hey!
I am hoping to go abroad in the late summer or September, and serve somewhere long-term. I would love to look into this conference! Thanks for the info 🙂

Introduction: I work in SE Asia and have been exploring how EthnoArts and Bible storying methods can better overlap. I coach local storying fellowship groups (SFGs) in how to lead oral Bible studies and know these 3 storying methods best: OneStory, Simply the Story and StoryTogether. In my own work and life I use different elements of each of…[Read more]

Hi Matt,
Welcome to the group! Would you like to introduce yourself and your interests? I see you’re based in Indonesia and working in Ethnoarts – I’ll be going there for the first time this summer, so I’d love to hear about that!-
Hi all, I’m an Arts Consultant working in Indonesia. For the past year or so we’ve finally begun to get something going and have had several songwriting workshops and other types of events, and now we’re looking to the future and trying to find more and better ways of training and mentoring others.
-
Matt – that sounds great. I am very interested in how you conduct your songwriting workshops abroad as that is something I would like to lead in my future endeavors abroad. Do you have a website?
-
Hi Josh, I don’t have a website or anything, but I’d be happy to share some reports and such with you if we can figure out a way to do that without me posting my email address here publicly or anything like that…
-
Awesome. I sent you a friend request on here… Perhaps that’ll allow us to send messages privately. Not totally sure how this website works yet.
-
Hi Matt & Josh – did you manage to get in touch with each other privately? If you can’t work it out, please let me know and I’ll figure something!
